Pragati Rath – Skills on Wheels
Empowering Rural Bengal Through Digital Education & Women’s Skill Development
Aranyaj Society is proud to introduce “Pragati Rath” (Skills on Wheels) — a transformative mobile initiative committed to bridging the digital and educational divide in rural West Bengal. With a special focus on digital literacy for children and youth and vocational training for women, this project is designed to empower underprivileged communities and foster self-reliance through mobility-based outreach.
Project Vision
To create thriving, self-reliant rural communities by:
Bridging the urban-rural digital divide.
Empowering women with sustainable livelihood skills.
Delivering modern education, vocational training, and health awareness directly to the doorsteps of underserved villages.
The Challenges We Address
1. Digital Divide in Rural Education
Many villages in West Bengal lack access to:
Computers or internet connectivity.
Digital learning tools and modern educational resources.
This has led to a wide educational disparity between urban and rural students, limiting their future prospects in a tech-driven world.
2. Lack of Vocational Opportunities for Women
Rural women often face:
High unemployment due to limited access to skill-building platforms.
Financial dependency with few avenues for entrepreneurship or income generation.
Our research highlighted the urgent need for vocational training in tailoring, block printing, and sanitary napkin production.
Needs Assessment: What We Found
In-depth field surveys across remote districts revealed:Low digital literacy among youth and a strong desire to learn computer skills.
High interest among rural women in self-employment through tailoring, textile crafts, and hygiene product manufacturing.
Gaps in health awareness, access to menstrual hygiene products, and educational content in local languages.
